Q & A
What Are Sari Scarves?
Sari scarves are one-of-a-kind, hand-sewn scarves created from the hems and scraps of fabric from traditional Indian saris. They are luxurious-feeling and feature an array of colors and patterns. No two are alike!
I think it's really neat that something so beautiful could be made out of fabric extras. These scarves look awesome as a head wrap because of the interplay of colors (it looks like you're wearing much more material than you are), but they also look great around the neck, too - and they go with just about everything. Wear them either way!
No child labor is used in creating these scarves, which are manufactured in India.

Is the Sari Scarf Large Enough To Cover My Head Fully?
With a little help, it is. You have two main options: some women tie a simple scarf beneath the sari to cover their bun fully, while others artfully tuck one end of the sari scarf over their bun to cover their hair fully. (Hard to imagine? There are great videos on youtube with technique instructions on how to do this; send me a note if you have trouble finding one.) There are also some women who layer two saris for extra coverage. But yes, you can cover your hair fully with one.
Why are you selling these for less?
These are the same exact kind of sari scaves sold at other head-covering and tichel websites. I am not a store or merchant, just a passionate wearer of headscarves. I'm trying to bring the cost of sari scarves down.
Sari scarves were always financially out of my reach - why were they so much, I wondered? I got tired feeling like I couldn't afford these scarves. In between my demanding full-time job at a not-for-profit, catching the bus, running after two cute kids and one cat (and a snake!), I would like to pass this economic option on to other women. And here we are! I hope you wear your unique scarf in good health. |
What is your return policy?
I want you to be thrilled with your sari scarf. If you feel your scarf is not as represented, you may return within 14 days of receiving your scarf; buyer pays return shipping. Please understand that there is individual variation in these scarves, but you can expect a color tone similar to the picture posted. Any slightly unfinished edges are part of the unique, handmade look of these funky scarves - be prepared for your scarf to have a little handmade personality.
Please note that these scarves are handmade out of recycled materials - which means the occasional run, crease, or extra thread are all part of the nature of the fabric. Embrace your scarf's uniqueness!

About Me
My name is Nomi Dayan and I love wearing scarves to cover my hair.
I collect scarves, wear them, and especially enjoy the artistic nature of them. (The Wrapunzel blog has changed my life!) I cover for religious reasons. Wigs seem fake to me and are not the most comfortable thing on my head, and hats tend to either obstruct half my view or just feel like it's something I want to take off. But scarves are expressive - they are fun, colorful, and have the potential to make your outfit look really color-coordinated. I love that depending on how they are tied and what accessories are used, they can be regal or funky, simple or unusual. The colors and textures make me feel like an individual instead of someone who always blends in. In my neighborhood and profession, hair wrapping is unusual, so it does take a bit of backbone to know that I always stand out, but I suppose that is all part of the adventure! Side Note: Please feel free to check out my other site, Painting for Kindness at paintingforchesed.weebly.com, where my sisters and I bring face painting to special-needs children in the NYC/Long Island area, as well as monogram design for wedding invitations when you give tzedakah (charity). |
